NEW FOR 2012 Clutter-free chest area
The new APDiving Back Mounted Counterlungs have been developed for the Inspiration, the Evolution and the Evolution Plus, as an alternative to the current over-the-shoulder counterlungs.
They can either be fitted as an upgrade to existing APD rebreathers or specified when ordering any new APD unit.
Why Back Mounted Counterlungs?
Stream-lined diver profile with reduced drag
More space available to clip on and retrieve extra items of kit
Easy to trim for horizontal attitude
Unique integral shoulder strap & harness design ensures the counterlung is fixed in the optimum position
Excellent breathing characteristics in all typical diving positions
The new Back Mounted Counterlung design is the product of many years experience and development involving extensive manned and unmanned trials and testing. Our primary goal was to optimise the work-of-breathing performance of the lung.
As a result, we believe we have now produced a unique back mounted counterlung - the best available and comparable to the renowned high performance of our existing over-the-shoulder design.
The new Back Mounted Counterlung offers excellent breathing characteristics in all typical diving positions. Only lying on your back does the breathing effort become slightly more noticeable.
This Back Mounted Counterlung consists of 4 main components:
Counterlung – 1 size offered in Black&Grey or Black&Yellow to match existing APDiving colour schemes
Harness – 4 sizes (see below)
Diluent Inflator and Hose (3 hose sizes - see Dil Inflator page)
Auto Diluent Valve - ADV
and 1 Optional Component:
Oxygen Inflator and Hose (3 hose sizes)
The oxygen inflator assembly is optional, according to your training level or configuration preferences.
Please note: This product combination includes the optional ADV already fitted.
Both Inflators are sold individually from this site.
The harness features APD rebreather weight pockets, multiple stainless D rings, through-the-legs crotch strap and includes a comfort pad.
Existing customers: Harness Size Guide
You should choose the size based on your current harness’ size. i.e.
a current Medium harness = a Medium new harness
Large = Large
XL = XL
XXL = XXL
PLEASE NOTE: If you currently have a Small harness you will need to order a Medium new harness. That is, there are only 4 sizes of new harness (M, L, XL & XXL) compared to 5 currently.
[N.B. The new Medium harness will fit exactly the same around the waist as the current Small and Medium. We have been able to combine the Small with the Medium because of the removal of the shoulder straps from the new harness structure]
This Back Mounted Counterlung comes with blanking plates and regular exhale T piece and optional ADV fitted as standard.
